Overview & Capabilities
Routing brings intelligent, algorithmic navigation to the multifamily experience. It enables turn-by-turn guidance across complex property layouts—including interiors, exteriors, and multi-floor transitions—ensuring users can navigate unfamiliar environments with confidence.
What You Can Build
- Easy On-Property Navigation: Help visitors, contractors, and new residents find their way from parking garages directly to specific apartments, community centers, or main offices without needing to stop and ask for directions.
- Efficient Maintenance Workflows: Group maintenance tasks together to create the fastest route across large properties. This cuts down on walking time for repair crews, inspectors, and cleaning staff.
- Faster Deliveries: Connect accurate indoor and outdoor routing directly to delivery and mail carrier apps. This helps drivers find hard-to-locate apartment numbers quickly and speeds up package drop-offs.
- Accessible Routes: Create custom paths for people with limited mobility, such as routing a user toward elevators and wheelchair-friendly ramps while avoiding stairs or steep hills.
- Smoother Property Operations: Save staff from constantly answering "Where do I go?" questions. By automating directions, management teams can focus on more important, hands-on tasks.
We've set up two demo experiences of how routing functionality could be enabled with routing data and integrations:

Technical Capabilities
You can build real-time navigation into your software using the Unit Map SDK and REST APIs. Developers can use our interactive testing environments to practice floor transitions, test unit highlighting, and check turn-by-turn logic before writing any official code.
- Smart Multi-Stop Routes: Automatically organize a list of destinations into the most efficient order. This is perfect for daily property inspections or a long list of maintenance requests.
- Multi-Floor Awareness: The map system specifically tracks stairs, elevators, and breezeways so it can guide users seamlessly up and down different levels of a building.
- Custom Walking Modes: Adjust how routes are calculated based on what a user needs:
- Default: The fastest and most direct walking path.
- Stairs Only / Elevators Only: Focuses on specific ways to move between floors (helpful when moving heavy equipment).
- Wheelchair Accessible: Provides paths that are fully step-free and compliant with accessibility standards.
- Avoid Specific Areas: Program the map to automatically route users away from temporary construction zones, closed areas, or staff-only spaces.
